DESCRIPTION: EPW – Henry P. Isaac, 10 Spencer St, London, "Maker to the Admiralty," boxed deck watch with British military pheon (broad arrow) marking to mvt, dial, and case rear, 56mm, silver OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1892, “F.T“ marking in oval cameo for casemaker Frederick Thoms, white enamel SS dial, SW-button-set, fully capped right angle lever escapement, free-sprung balance with diamond endstone, 19J, gilt mvt, s#10859 with matching serial number within case and to dial. Gross weight of assembled watch 95.0 dwt (147.8 g). Comes in original wooden box with brass insert to hold watch and with signed plaque on top bearing matching serial number; originally made with the box holding the movement in a slide, but later converted to make it difficult to use in civilian service. A large number of similar watches received this treatment and later on they were made originally in this configuration. In this instance the box clearly shows the evidence of the conversion as does the case (although more subtly). Selections from the collection of Tom McIntyre. Mr. McIntyre's website contains stories on many of the watches, and discussion of the present piece can be viewed at this link: https://awco.org/awcoshow.php?artname=Isaac+Deck+Watch&artid=403&collid=109&cidx=51
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright plates with few scattered small dark spots and fine scratches; flawless dial other than a tiny loss of paint to pheon which is overpainted above dial glaze; excellent hands; case shows little wear, some patina, few small nicks to rear perimeter; bow was removed for use in present boxed arrangement, crown shows little wear; case bezel with no provision for crystal; box in fine condition, felt liners intact, good hinge and latch, sizable resin repair to chipped portion adjacent right rear corner, small resin repair to inner portion of upper left corner, scattered small dings and a dent to top.
